Just curious, (has nothing do with Yosemite) what do you think of Hayden Kennedy and Jason Kruk “fair means” ascent of the southeast ridge of Cerro Torre? Specifically chopping the Compressor route bolts?

I think they screwed up. Nice climb they did but less impressed with that by the fiasco that followed. IMO it wasn't their place to chop the route.

Ton of additional info on the net...

I found it interesting that other climbers in El Chalten wanted to lynch them in person.

My thought is two guys took themselves way too serious thinking they had a right to partially chop (but not completely remove) a historical route.

I think the job should have been left to the locals....since it their mtn and their country. Not American, Canadian or British. And it should have been done right...and completely.

Imagine the outrage if anyone had done a similar thing in Yosemite?!

Agree Dane, they had no right chopping those bolts, they dident even take the same line! Respect for thier climb, but not the Chop!
I think David´s freeclimb a few days later is way more impressive, as he infact did take the maestri line and freed it with sketchy gear. He screw up big time last year (him and the Redbull team) but seems like he had time to think about it and went for a better style. Bravo!
