Dent-Blanche on ski

"TD, August 3, 1944  This route is very dangerous because of rock falls.

Crossing the bergschrund and rising through the couloir straight to the top. Halfway up it is slightly curved. A little below the curve, a very difficult passage requires pitons."

Gilles is sponsored by K2 and Dynafit I think. K2 Skis and Dynafit boots are pictured on that descent anyway. Both the new TLT6s and the TLT5 P are easy to spot. The Maestrale RS (I think) but Scarpa mastrale shell for sure harder to spot but it is there on the Scott Skis. Various skis shown. Scott and K2 for sure no clue what the brown pair are or the K@ or Scott models, sorry. Nomics and Quarks or course :)

K2 claims Gilles used a Shaxe and Coombacks. Pretty cool.

I saw old Quarks and a set of Nomics...but missed the Shaxe. No question there is at least one there and may be two. I should have looked closer

I think it's munter, tied-off with overhand backup.

Second for Munster with overhand tied off.

That's a Munter/Mule hitch but why they're using that at a rap is anyone's guess. Kooky French.

On the picture after this one you can see, that the first person was lowered down instead of rapping down himself. So the munter hitch was probably tied off at one point to have both hands free — to take that very picture for example.
