They are done, they are shipping and they are one genration better!  No dicking around on the fit.  Simply bolt them on with the current Petzl picks.  A new stronger and more durable design.  Designed to fit perfectly on the old or new tools.

Please NOTE!   October 22, 2012..... We are now shipping hammers again.  The stock won't last for ever.  I have sold out every production run in the last 3 years in just weeks.   Nov 9.   This run is sold out.   Next run will ready early Jan 2013.  Best to pre order if you want hammers this season.  No additional shipping charges  for International orders!

Variations of the Cold Thistle hammers have been around 5 years now. Now a few are getting passed on with 2nd hand gear. If you have an older hammer or 2nd hand hammer some of this email may help. If you have questions always better to ask before you start "fixing things with a file or grinder.

>the hole in the CT hammer is much bigger than the inner diameter
>of the manufacturer's screw hole

Factory 8mm bolt (it is not a screw) is 7.78mm
Factor hammer hole is 8.10mm +/- .05mm
CT hammer hole is 8.10mm +/- .05mm

Five distinct styles of CT Nomic hammers have been made going back 5 years.

Those hammers were made to specifically fit 4 different styles of pick cuts. As until just recently Petzl didn't offer picks for a Nomic hammer or a Nomic hammer as matter of fact. Only two of the CT hammer variations
were based on the current production Petzl picks. Those hammers are the current generation and the 2010/11 production run. No hammer were produced produced winter of 2011/12. No CT hammer is easily interchangeable with one generation or another.

All CT variations were specifically made to EASILY fit the old style Nomic heads. All will fit the current Nomic head as well. Some Nomic heads may need slight tuning to get the hammer to fit which is easy to do with a hand file.

> the outside diameter of the screw is supposed to hold in place which
understandably it does not and the hammer wiggles.

a correctly fit CT hammer will not wiggle in the head. The bolt does not support the hammer physically. The inner face of pick and hammer does. The bolt only positions the hammer and pick inside the aluminum head.

>But it would never fall out completely either.

If the back bolt in the Nomic head is incorrectly tightened or without the lock washer, you will loose the bolt and nut and eventually the hammer head.

> 2 mm difference is a lot in the precision work.

There is no "2mm difference" in the CT hammer on the fit surfaces. There isn't even a 1mm difference. There is an intentional .05mm +/- difference in the hole only and .005"+ on the inner face surfaces.

> Are these hammers compatible with the older Nomics? It does not look
like it is the case.

Yes every generation of CT Nomic hammer is 100% compatible and very easy to fit with the original Nomic and now the newer versions as well.

> How on earth then it is supposed to be put in?

CT hammers are generally EXTREMELY easy to fit by hand with no
modification to any generation of Nomic. In fact much easier than the majority of time and more secure once fitted than the factory Petzl versions. The rare exception to date with over 1000 CT hammers use is the shaft head might take minor hand fitting for clearance at the head shaft inner face. DO NOT modify the CT hammer or picks past what has been published on "CT hammer fitting". Do not modify anything until you know
what version of hammer you have (ask) and what pick inner face is
required.

Hi Cliff, your pair and another 60 or so pair went out late last week and early this week. Bit behind but no one waiting me for hammers right now. UK, Cham/EU delivery generally takes a week/10 days on the post.

Hopefully they will be just in time for the first bit of ice.

Iceland/Russian/Finland/Sweden/ Norway, NZ or Canada I have no clue how long it takes, sorry. But at least they are on the way!

Hi Dane,
I guess if you snooze you lose! I need a hammer for my new Quark. Will yours fit? Or is it just for the Nomics? I'd like to get one ASAP if possible. Thanks.
Bob

They fit perfectly on the new Quark, Nomic (new or old Nomic) and new Ergo.
